PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's University is encouraged by the steps taken yesterday by Temple University coach John Chaney to reach out to injured SJU senior John Bryant and to express remorse for his actions. It further appreciates the additional actions of Temple president David Adamany and athletic director Bill Bradshaw for their personal involvement in this very serious matter.

Saint Joseph's University believes there is no place in college basketball for this type of behavior, and there is nothing in the way Saint Joseph's plays that is intended to cause harm to its opponents. Everyone involved must recognize that a line was crossed before and after Tuesday's game, and there must be continued monitoring of the situation to ensure that what happened to John Bryant is not repeated.
