Aniello, Doubles Tandems Reach Second Round at Penn Classic

Men's Netters Edged by G.W. at A-10 Championship

MONROEVILLE, PA - Saint Joseph's picked up the doubles point, but George Washington rallied to claim the top three singles spots and then picked up the gamewinner with a three set victory at sixth singles to edge the Hawks, 4-3, at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship held at The Oxford Athletic Club in Monroeville, PA. SJU finished sixth overall at the event.

This looked good for the Hawks as Francisco Velazquez and A.J. Garabedian won at first doubles, 8-6. SJU then picked up the pointwith an 8-5 win at second doubles by Jimmy Holland and Antonio Aniello.

G.W. took charge of the match by picking up wins in the top three singles slots by Mustafa Genscoy (6-1, 6-4) downed Velazquez, Matt Treadgold (6-1, 6-4) defeated Jimmy Holland and Jake Jopling (6-1, 6-1) bested Garabedian, respectively. Aniello and Chris Spencer posted victoies at fourth and fifth singles to force the deciding match. Van Homer Pangilinan took the first set 6-4, but G.W.'s Will Timmons rallied back to win the second and third sets at No. 6 singles to be the deciding point.
