Senior midfielder Alish Paine's goal in the 69th minute was all the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team needed Friday evening, as the Hawks downed UNC-Wilmington 1-0.
Following a scoreless first half, Paine tallied the games lone goal midway through the second stanza. Paine broke through the Seahawks' defense, creating a one-on-one versus UNC-Wilmington's goalkeeper Christine York. As the ball rolled toward the net, Paine beat York to the ball and slid it to the back netting at 68:17.
That's all the Hawks would need on the evening as senior goalkeeper Nicole DiEnna made two saves to earn her first shutout of the season.
For the game, UNC-Wilmington outshot the Hawks 10-8 and held a 13-0 edge in corners.
With the victory, the Hawks improve to 4-4-1, while the Seahawks fall to 4-4-0.
