Oct. 29, 2006

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team fell in its season finale Sunday afternoon as the Hawks dropped a 2-1 decision to Fordham in the final moments at Finnesey Field.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the final minute, the Rams won a loose ball near the midfield as Brittany Hogan broke away from the Saint Joseph's defense. Hogan dribbled toward the SJU goal and feathered a pass to teammate Leah Jerome who beat the Hawks freshman goalkeeper Megan Bastanelli to put Fordham up 2-1 with only 34 seconds remaining in the game.

The Hawks would fail to tally a shot in the final seconds as Fordham held on for the win.

In the first half, Saint Joseph's opened the scoring in the eighth minute as senior forward Ali Wean tallied her Atlantic 10-leading 14th goal of the season as her shot from a direct kick deflected of a Ram defender and into the net.

Fordham would come back to tie the game shortly before halftime as Breean Daley headed in a bouncing ball of a Ram corner kick at 41:21.

For the game, Fordham out shot the Hawks 15-11 and held a 9-2 edge in corners.

Individually, Wean tallied the lone goal for SJU. Her 14 goals and 33 points on the season each set a new single-season record for Saint Joseph's.

With the loss, the Hawks finish the season 7-11 overall and 4-5 in the A-10. Fordham, which earned a berth in next weekend's Atlantic 10 Championship with the win, improved to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in the A-10.
