New Jersey Standout Hilliard Signs Basketball Letter of Intent

Nov. 16, 2006

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's men's basketball coach Phil Martelli announced the signing of scholastic standout Idris (pronounced E-driss) Hilliard to a national letter of intent during the early signing period. He will enroll in the University in the fall of 2007.

"We are delighted to add Idris to our program. He is first, and foremost, a terrific young man with an exceptional work ethic. He has the multiple skills that lead me to believe he will have a successful career here at Saint Joseph's," said Martelli.

Hilliard, a 6-7, 205-pound forward from Roselle, NJ, and The Hun School (Princeton, NJ), was an All-State Prep First Team selection in 2006. He averaged 17.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, helping his team to a 17-9 record.

Hilliard, who averaged 15.0 points as a sophomore, earned 2006 All-League and All-Prep honors, while also being named the 2006 Player of the Year by the Princeton Packet. He is currently listed among the Rivals.com Top 150 players for 2007.
