Holland Helps Lift SJU Past Bona, 4-3

OLEAN, NY - Senior Jimmy Holland persevered in a thrilling three set match at first singles to lift Saint Joseph's to a 4-3 victory over St. Bonaventure in a battle of Atlantic 10 title contenders at the SBU Fitness Center.

The afternoon started well for the Crimson and Gray, as SJU claimed two of the three matches to secure the doubles point. Phil Bayliss and A.J. Garabedian paired for an 8-3 win at second doubles, while Chris Spencer and Pat Adams won 8-6 at number three. Holland and Antonio Aniello were edged in a tie-breaker 9-8 (8).

The Bonnies gained the momentum however, as they collected three singles wins from spots two, three, and four. Wins by Bayliss (6-4, 6-2) at number five and Aniello (6-3, 6-3) at number six set the stage for Holland's heroics againt the Bonnies. Alejandro Nery. Holland won the first set in a tiebreaker, but Nery evened the match in a second set breaker. Holland finally broke through late in teh third set to claim the 7-6 (2), 6-7 (5), 7-5 win.
