An early second-half goal was the difference Sunday afternoon as the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team fell at Northeastern, 2-1.
Northeastern opened the scoring in the 39th minute as Liza Rebello took a pass from Jenna Lucchesi and beat the Hawks' junior goalkeeper Jen Kuhn (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser).
Saint Joseph's tied the game a little more than two minutes later as senior midfielder Kimmy Leigh (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) scored unassisted at 40:21.
The score would remain tied entering the second half, but Northeastern quickly changed that. Rebello tallied her second goal of the game 34 seconds into the second stanza and would hold Saint Joseph's scoreless to earn the win.
For the game, Northeastern out shot the Hawks 10-5, while the Hawks held a 4-3 edge in corners. Between the pipes, Kuhn made a game-high six saves, while Annie Petrofsky made four for the victory at the other end.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-4-0 on the season, while Northeastern improves to 4-1-0.
The Hawks return to Friday, September 15, at Towson. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
