The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team fell at St. John's Saturday evening as the Red Storm downed the Hawks 1-0.
Playing through rain and high winds, both squads kept the ball primarily in the midfield in the first half. The game would go scoreless into halftime as St. John's held a 5-2 edge on shots.
The Red Storm tallied the lone goal of the match early in the second half as Kaitlin Haas headed home the only score of the game past the Hawks' junior goalkeeper Jen Kuhn at 46:18. Kelly McConnell and Nicole Pasciolla each assisted on the play.
St. John's would control the pace for most of the remained of the game as it would out shoot Saint Joseph's 9-3 over the final 43:42 to earn the victory.
For the game, the Red Storm out shot the Hawks 15-5 and held a 7-2 advantage on shots on goal. Between the pipes, Kuhn made six saves in the loss, while Jaime Beran made two saves for the shutout for St. John's.
Individually, Saint Joseph's seniors Kaiti McCaffery and Megan Schutt each registered a shot on goal..
With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls 1-2-0 on the season, while St. John's improves to 2-0-0.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, September 5 at Lehigh. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
