Box Score
PHILADELPHIA -
Two first-half goals by Rider was too much for the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team to overcome Wednesday evening as the Hawks fell to the Broncs 2-0 at Finnesey Field.
The Broncs' Kelli Burke opened the scoring at 14:42 off a centering pass from teammate Erin Mahar. Burke, who stood unguarded in the middle of the box, beat Saint Joseph's freshman keeper Megan Bastianelli to the right post to put Rider up 1-0.
The score remained the same until the final moments of the half as Stephanie Madden tipped a pass from Kate Murphy passed a diving Bastianelli in the 42nd minute.
In the second half, both teams had scoring chances, with the Hawks having two prime opportunities. Unfortunately for Saint Joseph's, Kim Carter made two big saves on shots by SJU senior Nancy Cook to preserve the shutout.
For the game, Rider out shot the Hawks 15-11, with both teams tallying two corner kicks apiece.
Individually, Cook led the Hawks with five shots on the night, while Bastianelli made two saves in the loss.
With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 2-6-0 on the season, while Rider improves to 2-3-1
The Hawks return to action Saturday, September 23 as they host Marist at 1 p.m.
