Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The Hawks suffered their first home loss of the season Wednesday, when Lafayette came back in the second half to win, 2-1. The game marked Lafayette's first win of the season (1-5) and brings Saint Joseph's to 5-4.

The Hawks dominated the beginning of the game, creating four shots and one penalty corner in the first 12:00 minutes of the game. Their aggressive effort soon paid off when there was a frenzy in front of the Leopards' goal and sophomore Marisa Pizzi was able to knock the ball across the front of the net to senior Lauren Luft, who tucked it into the bottom left corner for her fourth goal of the season. Despite four more shots by the Crimson and Gray and two by Lafayette, the rest of the first half was scoreless.

Lafayette pounced early in the second half, scoring 3:00 minutes in. LC's Maggie DeFilippo charged the cage, getting off a close shot that Rebecca Cunfer came out to meet with a sliding save. Laura Fabian was right there to pick up the rebound though and put it past Cunfer into the net to even the score. 12:00 minutes later, practically the same play took place. This time, Maggie Condon took the first shot, which Cunfer was able to save with her pads, but Fabian was again there to pick up the rebound and stick it into the bottom left corner of the net. Senior Nicole Antonini was back and attempted to block Fabian's shot, but was unable to get her stick on the ball.

Despite seven shots taken by the Hawks in the next 20:00 minutes, along with three corner opportunities, the Hawks were unable to tie up the score before time expired.

The Hawks out-shot the Leopards 19-8 and edged them in penalty corners 6-2. Cunfer made four saves on the day.

SJU returns to action Tuesday, September 26th at Rutgers. Game time is set for 8:00pm.
