The Hawks faced off Saturday against the US Naval Academy, the host team for this weekend's Navy Invitational. Saint Joseph's was able to pull out two singles wins and two doubles wins for the day.
In First Flight action, freshman Jarrett Chirico won his second straight match in the tournament, defeating Nate Nelms 6-0, 6-3. Fellow freshman Matt Glasgow had a hard-faught match against Jason Hill, losing 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-3. Sophomores Pat Adams and Phil Bayliss also suffered defeat with scores of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-4 respectively. Freshman Niccholas Tuxen notched a win for SJU beating Ramsey Lemaich 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(5). Rookie Lucho Perez-Abreu fell to Stanley Kahl 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Five doubles matches were played, allowing 10 out of 11 Hawks to see action. Chirico and Bayliss teamed up to put away Lemaich and Nelms 9-8(4). Adams and Garabedian lost 8-4, Glasgow and Prusack lost 8-5 and Costello and Pereze-Abreu fell 9-8(4). Stauble and Tuxen pulled out a win against Jones and Malnati, 8-6.
Matt Prusack beat Kyle Jones, 1-6, 6-3, 3-2 (retired) in a D Flight match-up and Brent Kahl fell 6-2, 6-2 to Nate Malnati. In Double D-Flight, Costello and Perez-Abreu defeated Jones/Manati 9-7. Stauble and Tuxen also beat the Jones/Malnati pair 8-6. Stauble and Prusack lost to Smoke and James 8-6.
The Hawks take on players from University of Oklahoma and University of Arkansas tomorrow in the final day of the tournament.
