Saint Joseph's freshman Chris Chirico was named the first Atlantic 10 Tennis Rookie of the Week for the 2007 spring season, for the week of January 29th-February 4th, conference officials announced Monday.
Chirico recently came to Saint Joseph's at the end of last semester to join the team. Men's Tennis opened the spring portion of their season at the West Point Open where Chirico posted a 2-1 record to open the season, earning wins over Army (6-3, 6-2) and Colgate (6-2, 7-5) before losing to his brother Jarrett (6-1, 6-1) to place second in the tournament. Chirico then teamed with his brother to win the first flight doubles title with wins over Binghamton (8-4), Colgate (8-3), and Marist (5-1, retired).
The Hawks return to action Wednesday, January 31st when they travel to Penn.
