PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Pat Calathes had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Saint Joseph's survived 22 turnovers, beating city rival Drexel 69-51 Monday night at The Palestra.
Ahmad Nivins scored 13 points, and Tasheed Carr added 12 points and seven assists for the Hawks (7-4), who won their third straight.
Randy Oveneke had a career-high 18 points, and Frank Elegar 17 for Drexel (7-6), which defeated the Hawks 72-56 last season.
The Hawks led 38-26 six minutes into the second half, but the Dragons closed within 40-34 at the 11-minute mark. However, Calathes converted a three-point play and Carr followed with a 3-pointer that sparked a 12-2 run that made the score 52-36. The Dragons never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way.
Both teams had trouble getting on track in the first half. The Hawks shot 11-for-25 with 10 turnovers and led 28-20 at the break. Drexel made only 9 of 22 shots and also turned the ball over 10 times in the opening half.
Saint Joseph's has won 16 of the last 18 games between the schools and holds a 43-6 lead in the series.
