Saint Joseph's rower Adam Stoll won the Lightweight Men's event at the Main Line Slide ergometer race, held a Villanova University, Saturday, February 3rd. Stoll was one of seven Hawk oarsmen to compete in this indoor rowing competition.
Stoll, a junior and member of last year's Varsity Lightweight 8, pulled his personal best in the competition posting a time of 6:29.4 for a distance of 2000 meters. Close behind Stoll in the lightweight event was senior oarsman Steve Ramsey (third place, 6:34.3), and junior oarsman Marc Malott (fourth place, 6:44.7).
In the Heavyweight event, the Hawks were represented by 4 oarsmen. Junior rower Gavin Adams, a member of the 2006 SJU 2nd Varsity 8, posted the best time of the event for the Hawks, claiming third place overall with a personal best time of 6:13.1. Senior captain Alex DiBiasi took fifth place (6:25.5) despite battling an illness all week. Seniors Wayne Zimmer and Jeff Schaetzle, also members of the 2006 2nd Varsity 8, posted solid times taking sixth (6:26.2) and eighth (6:28.2) respectively.
The Hawks will continue to train indoors on the ergs for several more weeks before returning to the water and preparing for their first race of the spring season on March 17th in Camden, NJ.
