NEWARK, DE - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team dropped its first road contest of the season, falling 7-0 at the University of Delaware Sunday afternoon.

The Fightin' Blue Hens took command of the game early into the contest, tallying three shots within in the opening eight minutes. Delaware's Caitlin Germain tallied the game's first goal at the 8:55 mark to put her team up 1-0.

Ten minutes later, Delaware upped its lead to 2-0 as Amy Pickard took a pass from Germain and beat Saint Joseph's sophomore goalkeeper Megan Bastianelli.

Having out shot the Hawks 15-3 in the opening stanza, Delaware would add five second-half goals and again out shot Saint Joseph's 15-3. The Fightin' Blue Hens' Alli D'Amico tallied two goals, while Emily Sammis, Amanda Davis and Kendall Lytwynec each scored once in the second half.

For the game, Delaware out shot Saint Joseph's 30-6 and held an 11-5 advantage in corners.

Individually, SJU seniors Kelly Galen and Shannon Osborn each registered two shots, while Bastianelli made a game-high seven saves in the loss.

With the loss, the Hawks fall to 1-1 on the season, while Delaware improves to 1-1.

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Friday, September 8, when the Hawks host Robert Morris at 7 p.m.
