The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team battled for 110 minutes, and in the end came away with a 1-1 double overtime tie at Saint Louis Friday evening. The Hawks, which got a goal from freshman Jen Pfeiffer, travel to Charlotte for a match up with the 49ers on Sunday.
In the first half, Saint Joseph's defense kept the Billikens at bay despite being out shot 7-0. The Hawks' freshman goalkeeper Cara Critchlow made four of her game-high six saves during that stretch as the game remained tied at zero heading into the second half.
The Hawks' jumped on the board first behind Pfeiffer's goal in the 66th minute. The rookie forward gained control of a loose ball and blasted a shot from 17 yards out that snuck under the crossbar and into the back of the net at 65:38.
With less than 10 minutes left in the contest Saint Louis tallied the equalizer off the foot of Julia Brandenberg. The Billiken forward took a pass from teammate Kristen Sapienza and snuck a shot from 16 yards out past the Hawks' Crithclow into upper left corner to tie the game at 1-1 at 82:29.
Both defenses stiffened over the remainder of regulation and in both overtime sessions, with Saint Louis out shooting the Hawks 4-1, but with neither team scoring.
The draw moves Saint Joseph's to 7-3-1 overall and 2-0-2 in Atlantic 10 play. Saint Louis moves to 5-3-4 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play with the tie.
