The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team improved to 7-5 on the year Tuesday as the Hawks earned a 7-0 sweep of Saint Peter's.
As a team, Saint Joseph's claimed the first point of the match, earning victories at all three doubles flights. Senior Stephania Velazquez and sophomore Jennifer Kedzierski posted an 8-2 win over Vanessa Pangikas and Kristen Chen at No. 1 doubles, while the Hawks' duo of senior Gina DiGiacomo and freshman Maggie Mullaney downed Saint Peter's Laurie Souksavath and Meredith Earley 8-2 at the second flight to secure the point for SJU. Senior Lauren Kuhmerker and junior Krysta Contino completed the sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
Individually, Saint Joseph's was steady through out singles play, dropping only sets on the day. Velazquez was a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, while Kedzierski posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles. DiGiacomo prevailed at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 5-7, 6-0, as Mullaney posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at the fourth flight. Kuhmerker and Continio rounded out individual competition with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Saint Joseph's returns to action next Wednesday, April 9, versus Delaware State at 2:30 p.m.
