PHILADELPHIA -
Saint Joseph's senior Ahmad Nivins earned his fifth Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award for 2008-09 after leading the Hawks to three victories while averaging 26.3 points and 14.3 rebounds. Nivins was named the Co-Player of the Week, sharing the award with Richmond's Justin Harper.
Nivins was also chosen as the Big 5 Player of the Week, earning that distinction for the fourth time in 2008-09.
In the three games, Nivins shot 25-of-34 from the field and 29-of-33 from the
line. He had 25 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Charlotte and followed that
with a career-high 34 points and to go along with 16 boards as Saint Joseph's edged Duquesne, 99-98 in overtime. Nivins closed out the week with 20 points and 17 rebounds in a non-conference win over Penn.
The 6-9 senior has registered five consecutive double-doubles and now has 11 on the season. His five A-10 honors are tied with Mardy Collins (Temple - 2005) for the fourth-highest single-season total in league history.
Saint Joseph's (11-7; 4-0) has won six in a row and returns to action on Wednesday, January 28 at Richmond.
