Final Stats

PHILADELPHIA - Posting a valiant effort versus the 25th-ranked Charlotte 49ers, the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team couldn't overcome a two-goal differential, falling 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Finnesey Field.

The Hawks got on the scoreboard first as senior Taylor Carr tallied her first career goal. With the ball played into the Charlotte box, a 49er defender headed the ball to the left side where a wide-open Carr gathered the ball and blasted a shot to the near post to put SJU up 1-0 at 18:06.

Charlotte tied the game in the 35th minute as Whitney Bryant got the ball on the right side of the box off a 49er throw in and beat SJU freshman goalkeeper Christine Neal to tie the game at one all at 34:10.

The game remained tied heading into the second half, but unfortunately for the Hawks, they couldn't overcome two tallies by Charlotte in the second stanza.

Whitney Weinraub gave the 49ers the lead for good with a goal at 65:50, while teammate Hailey Beam added an insurance goal off a set piece at 78:49.

For the game, Charlotte out shot the Hawks 8-4 and held a 3-1 edge in corners.

Saint Joseph's caps the 2009 regular season next Saturday at home versus Temple at 7 p.m.
