The Hawks took control of the game from the start, when sophomore Maggie Lupinski had a shot deflect off the post in the third minute of play. Two minutes later Lauren Sawyer crossed a ball from the right wing where Jen Pfeiffer drilled a shot that was picked off by Bearcat keeper Jen McEachron. Despite ending the half in a 0-0 draw, the Hawks out-shot Binghamton 7-4 in the first half.

SJU came out attacking in the second half and capitalized on a corner kick from sophomore Steph Lawall six minutes into the half. Taylor Carr drilled a shot, which deflected off the left post, where Yozwiak was there to pick up the rebound and nail it home. The Hawks then kept the lead for the remainder, playing tough defense until the final whistle.

Freshman goalkeeper Kat Kelble earned the shutout in her first collegiate match.

"We're excited to get our first win," said head coach Jess Reynolds. "We came out with energy today, and we learned from our first game. We're also excited about the contributions from our freshmen, with Ali scoring the goal and Kat with the clean sheet."

The Hawks (1-1-0) will host Mount St. Mary's on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Finnesey Field.
