Lupinski's Hat Trick Leads Women's Soccer Past Saint Peter's, 5-2

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Backed by the first career hat trick from sophomore Maggie Lupinski, the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team topped Saint Peter's, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon at Jaroschak Field. The Hawks trailed at the half, but tallied five second-half goals to earn the win and improve to 2-2-1 on the season.

Despite the final score, the Hawks found themselves down at the half, 1-0. Saint Peter's Courtney Sundstrom took a pass from teammate Brianna DeStefano and beat the Hawks' freshman goalkeeper, Kat Kelble, to put the Peahens up 1-0 at 19:07.

The one goal stood for over 30 minutes, but Saint Joseph's would score four goals from the 57th minute to the 76th minute to take control of the game. Lupinski tied the game at one as she took a pass from junior Carly Salter and beat the Peahens keeper Leigha Ashmen at 56:58.

Lupinski gave SJU the lead for good on a goal at 68:31 off a pass from junior Lauren Sawyer. Sawyer would put the Hawks up 3-1 on a goal at 72:40 as newcomer Taylor Mallory earned her first collegiate assist on the play.

Lupinski notched her hat trick on an unassisted header as the Hawks' scored off a corner kick situation in the 76th minute. Freshman Emily Knesevitch went on to add her first collegiate goal at 84:30 as she scored off another SJU corner.

Saint Peter's Katelyn Matousek scored the final goal, but it wasn't enough as SJU moved to .500 on the year.

For the game, the Hawks outshot the Peahens 18-7 and held an 8-4 advantage in corners.

Kelble improved to 2-1 on the year as she made two saves in the win.

The Hawks return to action this Friday when they host Towson at 7 p.m.
