Papa Samba Ndao Signs Letter of Intent to Join Men's Basketball Team

Nov. 17, 2010

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's men's basketball coach Phil Martelli announced that Papa Samba Ndao has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University beginning in January 2011.

Ndao will begin practicing with the Hawks after Christmas and will be eligible immediately, although he could redshirt the season.

A 6-8, 215-pound forward from the Senegal, Ndao (pronounced NON-doe) attended scholastic power Montverde (Fla.) Academy. He had originally signed a letter of intent to attend Boston College, but was released from that commitment because of a coaching change there.

"Papa is a very defensive minded player and I'm intrigued by the versatility he will bring to our team. Coming from the Montverde program, he clearly understands the work ethic necessary to advance his game," said Martelli.

The Hawks currently have 12 players eligible to play this season, while Hofstra transfer Halil Kanacevic is sitting out this season and can participate in practice only.
