DAYTON, Ohio -
A last-minute goal was the difference Friday evening as the Saint Joseph's women's soccer fell at Dayton, 1-0. The Hawks got a game-high nine saves from sophomore Lauren Jancuska, while classmate Mo Hawkins recorded five of the team's nine shots.
Both teams played to a draw after the opening half as the Flyers delivered seven shots, while the Hawks recorded three on the Dayton goal.
Jancuska kept the Hawks in the game, making six of her nine saves in the second half, while senior Maggie Lupinski's shot in the 88th minute sailed just over the net to keep the game knotted at zero.
Dayton would score the lone goal shortly after as Josie Grant dribbled through the SJU defense and found Kelsey Smigel in the center of the field. The Flyers' forward squared and drilled a shot that found the back of the net at the 88:12 mark.
Down 1-0, Saint Joseph's had one more scoring chance, but a shot by Hawkins was blocked in the final minute to end the Hawks' chances.
Saint Joseph's returns to action on Sunday at Xavier at 1 p.m.
