Women's Soccer Earns 1-1 Tie at Xavier

CINCINNATI - Saint Joseph's women's soccer team earned a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Xavier Sunday afternoon. Senior Jen Pfeiffer tallied the Hawks' goal and moved within one of the all-time SJU mark with her seventh goal of the year and 31st of her career.

Saint Joseph's (6-5-5, 1-3-3 Atlantic 10) and the Musketeers played to a scoreless draw after the opening 45 minutes despite the Hawks out shooting Xavier, 10-5.

Pfeiffer got the Hawks on the board in the 51st minute off a pass from sophomore Mo Hawkins. Pressing into the Xavier zone, Hawkins fed Pfeiffer a lead pass towards the XU goal. Pfeiffer gathered the pass and drilled a shot to the back of the next at 50:22 to make it a 1-0 game.

Xavier would even the game in the 72nd minute as Jessica Brooks scored for the Musketeers.

Saint Joseph's had three scoring chances in the first overtime, but all three shots were saved by Xavier's Katie Markesbery.

For the game, the Hawks outshot the Musketeers 20-14 and held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

Hawkins led SJU with nine shots, while Pfeiffer registered three, including the goal. Pfeiffer is now one goal behind Ellen Stenrud for the all-time lead in goals at 32. Sophomore Lauren Jancuska made three saves in the net to earn the tie for SJU.

The Hawks return to action this Friday when they host St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m.
