The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team got an early goal from sophomore Mo Hawkins and junior Christine Neal made six saves as the Hawks earned a 1-1 double-overtime draw with Delaware Friday evening at Finnesey Field.
Playing their first home game of the year, the Hawks (0-2-1) got on the board in the first minute as Hawkins collected the ball off a scramble at the top of the Delaware box. The Blue Hens (1-2-1) evened the game in the 21st minute off a set-piece goal by Leigh Victory. From the left side and 20 yard out, Victory placed a low shot past the SJU wall and into the net to make it a 1-1 game at 20:42.
The game would push bask and forth over the remainder of regulation, with the Hawks out shooting the Blue Hens, 14-13.
In the first extra frame, neither team was able to place a shot on net, forcing the final 10-minute period. Neal came up large in the second overtime, making a diving save to preserve the tie.
For the game, Delaware finished with a 20-17 edge in shots, while the Hawks finished with 13 corners to the Blue Hens' five.
