PHILADELPHIA -
A trio of goals in the span of two minutes propelled the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Lehigh Friday evening at Finnesey Field. Playing through rain, the Hawks got a goal from sophomore Morgan Circe and pair of goals from senior Jen Pfeiffer between the 51st and 53rd minutes to earn their third-straight win.
The Hawks (4-3-2) got on the board as Circe deflected a free kick by senior Steph Maurer into the left side of the Lehigh goal at 50:47.
Pfeiffer added her first goal less than a minute later. Gathering a pass from junior Ali Yozwiak, Pfeiffer took a quick dribble inside the left edge of Lehigh box and deposited a shot into the lower right corner to give Saint Joseph's a 2-0 lead at 51:39.
Less than a minute later, Pfieffer struck again, this time into the upper right corner. Yozwiak dribbled the ball down the right sideline and found senior Maggie Lupinski driving towards the net. Lupinski took the pass and found Pfeiffer one-on-one versus the Lehigh goaltender. With a quick recovery and turn, Pfeiffer lifted the shot into the net and gave the Hawks another insurance goal at 52:36.
With the rain continually coming down, the Hawks defense kept the Mountain Hawks off the board, with junior Christine Neal needing to make just one save to earn the win.
For the game, the Hawks outshot Lehigh 7-4, with Neal saving the only shot on net.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Sunday at NJIT.
