The final day of the SJU Men's Tennis Invitational saw a break in the weather as all four singles flights played down to the finals at the SJU Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Due to the inclement weather over the weekend, no doubles draws commenced; however, a handful of non-bracketed doubles matches took place at the conclusion of singles play.
In the top flight, SJU senior Jeff Kessler was a quarterfinal winner over Delaware's Andre Vorobyov, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4, before falling in the semifinals to Kacper Rams of Temple, 6-3, 6-1/ Junior Tommy Gates fell in the quarterfinal round to UD's Troy Beneck in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
In flight number three, freshman Max Montague went down to Lafayette's James Oliver, 6-2, 6-2, while classmates Devin Bostick and Jason Sisti and sophomore Paranjay Malhotra all bowed out in the quarters in the fourth flight. Bostick lost to Paul Stauskas of Drexel, 6-4, 6-4, Sisti fell to the Dragons' Daniel Hansen, 7-5, 6-4, and Malhotra was defeated by Evan Andrews of Delaware, 6-4, 6-0.
In limited doubles play, it was a mixed bag for the Hawks. Montague teams with sophomore Dan Barrus, falling to Skyler Davis and Badr Ouabdelmoumen of Drexel, 8-5. Malhotra and classmate Kristian Broaddus dropped an 8-2 result to Joshua Cook of Army and Carl Jedlinski of Monmouth, and Sisti and freshman Sean Rojo were on the short end of an 8-4 result against Roman Cacha and Chad Llewellyn of Army.
Gates teamed with senior Paul Ganev to dispatch Dale Fetterman and Fernando Tovia of La Salle, 8-3, before falling to Drexel's Hansen and Jeganathan Srinivasan, 8-6. Bostick and junior Erik Thunberg took their first match, an 8-3 victory over La Salle's Hunter Selman and Robert Kasinow, before dropping the final match of the day to Beneck and Adam Lawton of Delaware.
The Hawks return to the courts on Friday at the St. Bonaventure Invitational.
