Men's Soccer Concludes Season with 2-0 Loss at Temple

Nov. 3, 2012

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Although Saint Joseph's fired off 12 shots on goal, five coming from freshman Tim Lazorko, the men's soccer team fell to cross-city rival Temple, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Ambler Sports Complex. As this afternoon's match marked the season finale, the Hawks stand at 5-11-2 overall and 1-5-2 in the Atlantic 10, posting their best overall record since 2008.

Saint Joseph's saw an offensive opportunity early on as junior Ryan Kelly hit the crossbar in the 10th minute of his first start of the season, but Temple's Andrew Dodds netted a goal in the 21st minute to give the Owls a 1-0 advantage.

The Hawks continued to strike as they rocketed three shots over a 1:20 time frame and three more shots in 1:48, all six on goal, but Temple goalkeeper Dan Scheck went a perfect 12-for-12 on the day in saves.

Temple (10-5-3, 6-1-2 A-10) would tack on one more goal in the 85th minute before time expired on the regular season and the Owls came out with the win, 2-0.

On the defensive end, the Hawks shut down Jared Martinelli, Temple's leading scorer, holding him to just three shots, one on goal, for the game. The Hawks put a halt to the potential of a four-game scoring streak for Martinelli.

Senior goalkeeper Andrew D'Ottavi made five saves in the loss, ending his third season in net for the Hawks with a 5-10-2 overall record and 1-5-2 record in the conference.

Senior captain Tim Brennan capped his career on Hawk Hill with his 69th consecutive appearance and 66th career start. The Hawks will graduate one senior in Brennan and look to return 10 of their 11 starters next season.
