BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The women's cross country team began the second half of the 2012 season with a 27th-place finish in the Gold Division of the 6K Paul Short Invitational on Friday, September 28. The squad competed against 40 other teams and 360 runners in all. Junior Emma Slattery paced all Hawks, for the second time this season, with a 90th place finish, clocking in at 22:01.
With the time, Slattery sets a new personal-best time in the 6K, improving 32.5 seconds on her previous time of 22:33.5.
Juniors Elizabeth Barrett and Erin James crossed the finish line next for Saint Joseph's, placing 113th and 114th, respectively, and both clocking in at 22:17. Barrett ran 34 seconds faster than her 2011 Paul Short time to record a new personal-best time in the 6K. In her season debut, James ran exactly one minute and 30 seconds faster than her 2011 Paul Short time and 1:28 quicker than her previous 6K personal-best.
Classmate Emily Chappell finished in SJU's top five for the second consecutive race as she clocked in at 23:10, good for 197th place. Chappell improved on her 2011 Paul Short time (23:25) by 15 seconds.
Freshman Lauren Hehir rounded out the top five for the Hawks with a 237th-place finish at 23:56. Hehir has finished in the SJU top five three times this season, already improving her previous 6K personal-best time (24:06) by 10 seconds.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 13 when they travel to Princeton, N.J. to compete in the Princeton Invitational. Start time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
