SJU Welcomes 12th Athletics Hall of Fame Class, Celebrates Women's Athletics

Saint Joseph's University honored its newest Hall of Fame class at the 12th Athletics Hall of Fame Celebration on November 17. The inductees for the Class of 2013 included Laura Barry '79 (women's rowing); Hayley Davidson '96 (field hockey); Joe McLaughlin '53 (men's track & field); George Todt '69 (men's soccer); Boo Williams '81 (men's basketball); and the 1973-74 women's basketball team. SJU Commemorates 50th Anniversary of 1962-63 Men's Basketball Team

SJU celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1962-63 men's basketball team during gameday festivities on November 16.? Coached by Hall of Famer Jack Ramsay, that team finished with a 23-5 record, won the Quaker City Tournament, captured the Middle Atlantic Conference title and advanced to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament. photos>

Dear Fellow Hawk,

Greetings from SJU and best wishes to you and your family.? I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy the upcoming Christmas holiday. Your intentions will be offered at a Mass in the Chapel of Saint Joseph during the month of December.

Our fall sports teams have completed their seasons. Among the notable results were strong performances by the cross country teams at the Atlantic 10, IC4A and ECAC Championships and the men's soccer team reaching the postseason for the first time since 1994.? Each of our squads remained in contention for postseason play through the final weekend of the regular season.

It was wonderful to see so many former players and coaches, as well as family and friends, attend the Athletics Hall of Fame Celebration.? It was an extremely deserving class of inductees.? In addition, we celebrated 40 years of women's varsity athletics. Saint Joseph's has long been an advocate for equality in women's sports and it's gratifying to see the growth that has taken place here at SJU.

As we enter the season of giving, I would like to thank you for your commitment to Hawk Athletics.? Your ongoing support is critical to fulfilling our mission to Develop Everyday Champions.

The SJU Baseball Program will host its fifth annual Lead-Off Dinner and Hall of Fame Induction on January 25. This year's inductees are Joe Levins '72 and Dan Lauer '96. The keynote speaker will be Comcast SportsNet Baseball Analyst Ben Davis.
