Pierre Brondeau was a double-winner on Saturday as the Saint Joseph's men's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over conference rival St. Bonaventure at the SJU Tennis Complex on the Maguire Campus. The Hawks took five of six singles matches on the day to secure the victory.
Brondeau teamed up with Alex Veronis for a dominating 8-2 win in third doubles, but the Bonnies won the doubles point, winning the second flight in a tiebreaker to take an early lead in the match.
The Hawks got wins in the second through sixth singles flights to come away with the match. Jose Sierra was a 6-1, 6-2 winner in the second flight, while Brondeau also took his third flight match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Tommy Gates was a 6-1, 6-3 winner in the fourth flight, Max Montague won his fifth flight match, 6-4, 6-3, and Jeff Kessler brought home a 6-0, 6-3 triumph in the sixth.
Saint Joseph's will take two days off before a busy slate of matches begins on Tuesday with a home tilt against Bucknell. On Thursday, the Hawks will play at Drexel before hosting NJIT and Lafayette on Sunday and Monday.
