LEWISBURG, Pa. -
Collin Forgey was 3-for-4 while Mike Muha and Chris Hueth added two hits apiece as the Saint Joseph's baseball team earned a 4-2 win over Bucknell on Wednesday afternoon at Depew Field.
Saint Joseph's (13-15) never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on three consecutive two-out hits in the top of the first. Muha got things started with a single to right center before coming in to score on a double by Brian O'Keefe. Hueth then followed with a single to plate O'Keefe and double the Hawk advantage.
Bucknell (6-21) got one back in the bottom half of the inning as Carter Bumgardner doubled to left, scoring Corey Furman.
The Hawks tacked on a run in the third as Hueth led off with a single and Forgey followed with an RBI double. The Bison answered in the fifth as Bumgardner doubled once again, this time scoring Rob Krentzman with two outs.
SJU added an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Forgey ripped a two-out single to right to score Muha and push the lead to 4-2.
Jimmy Yacabonis worked a perfect ninth for his fourth save of the season.
Steven Schuler picked up the win, extending his recent run of form with two and a third innings of scoreless, hitless relief to improve to 1-1. James Harrity started the game and allowed two runs on six hits, walking three and striking out six, in four and two-thirds innings. Daniel Thorpe added a shutout inning with two strikeouts as well.
Jack McLinden took the loss for Bucknell, allowing three runs on seven hits, for his first decision of the season.
The Hawks are back in action on Friday afternoon at Smithson Field when they host St. Bonaventure in a non-conference series. First pitch in the opener is set for 3:00 p.m.
