Jameer Nelson Honored by YMCA with Gym Dedication

Saint Joseph's Hall of Famer and Orlando Magic star Jameer Nelson was honored today by the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA for his commitment and dedication to the youth in the Chester and Philadelphia community. The gymnasium at the new Haverford Area YMCA was dedicated to the Pete and Jameer Nelson Foundation.

The Pete and Jameer Nelson Foundation Gymnasium will benefit all YMCA members through a variety of programs for all ages. These include Youth Sports Leagues and recreational sports, fitness programs and community events.

Nelson has given back to the people of his hometown of Chester through his Foundation's programs and community events and has partnered with the Philadelphia Freedom YMCA to expand his support to the Philadelphia community.

Considered the best player in SJU's storied history, Nelson led the Hawks to the undefeated regular season and the NCAA Elite Eight in 2004. A first-round NBA Draft pick in 2004, Nelson has played all 10 years with the Magic, earning All-Star status in 2009.
