PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to city rival Temple Friday evening as the Owls scored the game's lone goal in the 88th minute to earn the 1-0 win.

In a back and forth contest that saw solid play from SJU goalkeeper Allison Ebling and Temple keeper Shauni Kerkhoff, it was the Owls who struck the decisive blow off a set piece.

Following a foul on SJU, Temple's Erin Lafferty lofted a ball from 30 yards out on the right wing that was directed at the far left post. The Owls' Gina DiTaranto tracked the ball and headed a lofted shot to the far right post and just out of reach of Ebling to find the back of the net at 87:52.

Saint Joseph's (1-2-0) would have last chance, but a corner kick by sophomore Shannon Mulvey in the 89th minute never found another Hawk as the Owls ran out the clock.

For the game, SJU outshot Temple 11-7 and held a 9-5 edge in corner kicks.

Ebling matched her season-high with four saves on the afternoon, while sophomore Emily Gingrich and junior Olivia McEachern combined for nine of the Hawks' 11 shots.

Kerkhoof had six saves at the other end for Temple as it moved to 3-0-0 on the year.

The Hawks return to action on Sunday at Hofstra at 1 p.m.
