RICHMOND, Va. - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team capped the nonconference portion of its schedule with a 2-1 victory at Richmond on Friday afternoon. The Hawks got a first half goal from senior Jill Root and junior Olivia McEachern tallied the game-winning goal in the 61st minute to help SJU improve to 7-4-0 overall.
Saint Joseph's got on the board in the sixth minute as Root scored her first goal of the season. Off a corner, Root collected a header by Richmond and lifted a shot that floated past the Spiders' goalkeeper and into the net from 18 yards out at 5:20.
Richmond (5-5-0) would rally in the second half to tie the game at 1-1 as Meaghan Carrigan deflected in a shot by teammate Shannon Colligan at 51:16.
McEachern would answer less than 10 minutes later as she headed home the game winner off a pass by classmate Shannon Westhead at 60:11.
In net, junior Allison Ebling made a season-high 10 saves to earn the victory.
The Hawks return to action next Friday at Rhode Island at 7 p.m.
