WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team dropped its Atlantic 10 opener 2-0 at George Washington on Thursday.
Saint Joseph's (6-4-0, 0-1-0 A-10) came out as the aggressors and finished with a 13-4 edge in shots, but it was an early goal by GW's Mackenzie Cowley at 13:01 that gave the hosts the lead.
Down by one, the Hawks continued to press forward in the second half, but unfortunately were turned away by the Colonials defense each time.
George Washington (6-4-0, 1-0-0 A-10) saw its lead move to 2-0 at 86:15 as a ball was deflected by a Hawk and into the SJU net.
For the game, SJU senior goalkeeper Allison Ebling made one save, while rookie Dakota Mills had a game-high four shots.
The Hawks return to action on Sunday when they host Fordham at 1 p.m.
