Women's Lacrosse Hosts American, Welcomes Wales this Week

PHILADELPHIA – Coming off of a heartbreaking 12-11 overtime loss to Temple on Saturday, the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team (0-1) will host American (1-0) this Wednesday, February 18. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Sweeney FIeld.

The Saint Josephs women's lacrosse program will also host the Wales National Team in an exhibition match-up scheduled for Thursday, February 19 at 4:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field.

"We look forward to the unique opportunity to play against the Wales Senior National Team, a squad that finished fifth at the 2013 World Cup,” said head coach Alex Kahoe prior to the start of the season. “This will be a great opportunity for our team to play against top international competition."

Heading into Wednesday's game, junior midfielder Kelly Phelan (3G, 1A) and sophomore defender Maggie Egan (3G) currently lead the squad in scoring while senior goalkeeper Nora McGeever sports a 10.91 goals against average and .500 save percentage after one game.

SCOUTING AMERICAN
American enters Wednesday's game at Saint Joseph's coming off of a 16-12 win over Wagner this past Saturday. Eight Eagles scored for American, led by Madison Hoon (5G) and Jessica Wojciechowski (4G). Goalkeeper Rose Redfoot made six saves in the full 60:00 for the victory.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST THE EAGLES
American owns a 6-1 all-time advantage over Saint Josph's as Wednesday's game marks the seventh time in program history and first since 2005 that the Eagles and Hawks will face each other. Saint Joseph's lone win came on April 15, 2003.

Last Saturday, February 14, sophomore defender Maggie Egan's third goal of the game with 4:56 remaining in regulation forced overtime at 9-9, but the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team (0-1) ultimately fell to Temple, 12-11, in its season opener on Sweeney Field. Junior midfielder Kelly Phelan netted a team-high four points (3G, 1A) while in her first collegiate start, senior goalkeeper Nora McGeever made 12 saves in net in the full 66:00.
