Men's Soccer Continues A-10 Action at George Mason on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – Undefeated in Atlantic 10 action after wins over St. Bonaventure and Rhode Island this past week, the Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad (5-5-1, 2-0-0 A-10) will face conference foe George Mason (2-6-1, 0-1-0 A-10) this Saturday, October 8. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va. Live streaming of the match will be provided via the Atlantic 10 Network.

Now at five wins on the season, SJU has already exceeded its total number of wins from last fall, with seven regular-season matches left to be played.

Saint Joseph's was predicted to finish 11th in the A-10 regular-season, per the 2016 A-10 Men's Soccer Preseason Poll. George Mason was voted seventh.

The reigning Atlantic 10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week, Saint Joseph's junior midfielder Matt Crawford leads the squad in scoring with 16 points on a team-best seven goals and team-best two assists and has scored six of SJU's last seven goals. In conference matches, Crawford leads the A-10 in points (9), points per match (4.5), goals (4), and goals per match (2.0).

Sophomore forward Derek MacKinnon is SJU's only other Hawk with at least one goal and one assist. Junior goalkeeper Greg O'Connell (5-5-1, 2-0-0 A-10) sports a 0.97 goals against average and .814 save percentage in all 1020:44. Through 11 starts, O'Connell has made 48 saves against just 11 goals allowed to go with five shutouts.

On a week's rest, George Mason enters Saturday's match-up at 2-6-1 and 0-1-0 in the A-10 after a 2-0 loss vs. VCU last Saturday. Tunde Akinlosotu and Daniel Hoffman lead the squad with two goals apiece. The Patriots have started Tomas Lapnas in net in place of an injured Steffen Kraus for the last two matches.

George Mason owns a 2-0-2 all-time series advantage. In the last meeting on Hawk Hill last year, the squads tied, 1-1.
