PHILADELPHIA - Behind goals from seniors Shannon Mulvey and Emily Gingrich, the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team rallied for a 2-1 victory at La Salle on Sunday afternoon.
After falling behind 1-0 early in the second half, the Hawks (10-1-2, 3-0-1 Atlantic 10) got key tallies from their senior class to extend SJU's unbeaten streak to 12 games.
Off a crossing pass into the La Salle box from rookie Gabrielle Vagnozzi, Mulvey collected the ball and directed a shot inside the far post that beat the Explorers' goalkeeper and tied the match at 1-1 at 76:27.
The tie would be short lived though as the Hawks used momentum to take their first lead of the contest just over a minute later. Following a corner kick by Mulvey, Gingrich gathered the ball through a scrum in front of the goal and lifted a shot high inside the near post to put Saint Joseph's up 2-1 at 77:42.
Saint Joseph's defense and freshman goalkeeper Cameron Perrott would make the score stand as La Salle's two best scoring chances in the remaining moments failed to reach net.
After a scoreless first half, La Salle opened the scoring at 54:57 as Paige McDowell put her team ahead 1-0 as she converted off a corner kick.
The Explorers' lead would stand for more than 20 minutes before Saint Joseph's comeback.
For the game, Saint Joseph's finished with a 13-9 edge in shots, while La Salle had a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
In net, Perrott made three saves to improve to 10-1-2 on the year.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Thursday when it hosts Richmond at 7 p.m.
