Stuski Scores in 3-1 Loss at Yale

Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - In their final regular-season matches of their collegiate careers, seniors Ted Foley and Mike Stuski teamed up to score early for the Hawks, but Yale ultimately upended the Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad, 3-1, on Wednesday evening at Reese Stadium in the first meeting between the teams in program history. With the loss, the Hawks cap the 2016 regular season at 6-11-1 while Yale improves to 3-9-2.

Saint Joseph's got the scoring started in the 13th minute when Foley sent a pass over to Stuski, who put his shot off of the post, off of Yale golakeeper Kees Schipper, and into the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage. The goal marked Stuski's first of the season and second of his career, while Foley's helper marked the senior's first collegiate point.

Yale answered on a header in the 18th minute and added another score in the 26th minute to go ahead, 2-1.

The Bulldogs threatened again in the 34th minute, but Saint Joseph's senior goalkeeper Jay Higbee made the stop to keep the Hawks at a one-goal distance heading into the halftime break.

Yale scored just minutes into the second half on a rocket from 20 yards out to extend its lead, 3-1, by the 48th minute.

The Hawks took two more shots from that point but couldn't find the back of the net as the 3-1 score would stand as time expired.

Higbee (0-1-0) got the starting nod in net and made four saves - two in each half - in the full 90:00 in his first appearance of the season.

The Bulldogs took 13 shots and landed seven on goal, while the Hawks took seven shots, with Stuski's goal standing as SJU's only shot on goal. Junior midfielder Matt Crawford took a team-high three shots for the match.

All six of SJU's available seniors - Foley, Higbee, Stuski, forward Mori Diane, midfielder Sam Irvin, and midfielder Eric Jordan - started for the Crimson and Gray in the final regular-season match of their collegiate careers. Senior midfielder Bliss Harris missed the match due to an injury sustained against Duquesne on October 22.

The Hawks wrapped up their regular-season Atlantic 10 season this past Saturday, but A-10 matches still run through this upcoming Saturday, November 5, with the official postseason field to be announced on Saturday evening. With nine league points after A-10 wins over St. Bonaventure, Rhode Island, and George Mason, Saint Joseph's is tied, with Rhode Island, for that eighth spot. Rhode Island (9 points), George Washington (8 points), and Dayton (8 points) all play on Saturday. The A-10 Championship runs from Thursday, November 10 through Sunday, November 13 at Davidson's Alumni Soccer Stadium in Davidson, N.C. and will see eight teams make the field.
