KINGSTON, R.I. - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team topped Rhode Island, 1-0, in double overtime on Thursday evening at the URI Soccer Complex to advance to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship.

With the win, the top seed Hawks (17-1-2) advance to the semifinals of the A-10 Championship and will face fourth seed George Mason at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

In a back-and-forth match in which both teams had scoring chances, it was Saint Joseph's that finally broke through 1:29 into the second overtime. Off a corner kick by sophomore Paige Bergman, the ball glanced off the head of classmate Taylor Ryan and deflected into the goal off a Rhode Island defender.

Saint Joseph's entered extra time thanks in part to sophomore goalkeeper Grace Bendon. In the first half, Bendon made a penalty kick save off a shot by the Rams' Rachael Lieberman early in the contest and came up big with seven combined saves in the second half and overtime to improve to 6-0-0 on the year with her second shutout.

While the Rams were denied by Bendon, the Hawks had a couple chances in the second half but a shot by Meghan DiPippa found the post and Rhode Island's Katie Nickles stopped four more chances, but couldn't get to the game winner.

For the game, the Hawks finished with a 20-13 edge in shots and 11-4 advantage in corner kicks.

A-10 Offensive Player of the Year Dakota Mills led all players with a game-high 10 shots, while Bendon made a game-high 10 saves.
