KINGSTON, R.I. - The top seed Saint Joseph's women's soccer team fell to seventh seed Dayton in the title game of the Atlantic 10 Championship, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the URI Soccer Complex.
Saint Joseph's, which entered the day on a 19-game unbeaten streak, moved to 18-2-2 on the year with the loss. The Hawks remain in contention for an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament with the field to be announced on Monday at 4:30 p.m. on the NCAA DI Women's Soccer Selection Show.
For their performances during the tournament, sophomores Dakota Mills and Grace Bendon and freshman Gabrielle Vagnozzi were named to the A-10 All-Championship Team.
After more than 35 minutes of scoreless play, the Flyers (9-9-3) broke the tie as they tallied a pair of goals in under a minute to take a 2-0 advantage. Dayton's Libby Leedom scored from inside the box off a crossing pass at 37:19, while teammate Micayla Livingston headed in a crossing pass at 38:07.
The Flyers got two goals apiece from Leedom and Alexis Kiehl and a single goal from Beth Kamphaus in the second half.
For the match the Flyers finished with a 29-5 edge in shots and 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
In goal, Bendon made a game-high five saves, while Mills led SJU with three shots.
