MEDIA, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end on Friday night as the Hawks fell to visiting Quinnipiac, 5-2, at the Springton Indoor Tennis Club.
Junior Tristan Boustany and senior Kevin Gates earned points for the Hawks; Boustany was a winner in the fourth singles flight, while Gates took his sixth flight match in straight sets. Boustany defeated Willem van Biezen, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, and Gates dismissed Luke Roser, 7-5, 6-1.
Senior Andres Urrea played a close, three-set match in the second flight before ultimately falling. Classmate Renier Moolman fell in a tiebreaker in the first flight, while freshman Andre Fick dropped a tight contest in the fifth.
"This was a disappointing result and we gave away too many points at crucial times," head coach Ian Crookenden remarked after the match. "I expect a more focused and determined effort in the future.
"We started slowly in doubles play and never looked like challenging," the head man said. "The singles play was a lot better, but we did not maintain our poise and purpose at challenging moments when the outcome could have been reversed."
The Hawks fell to 3-2 on the season, while the Bobcats improved to 5-2.
Saint Joseph's continues a busy weekend on Saturday, hosting Monmouth at Springton at 4:00 p.m.
