MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team downed Duquesne, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex.

Opening the match in doubles play, the Hawks took the opening point with wins at the second and third flight. Tristan Boustany and Kevin Gates picled up a 7-5 victory at the second flight, while Peter Dewitt and Dan Tan earned a 6-2 decision at the third flight.

Moving to singles play, Saint Joseph's proved to be too much for Duquesne as the Hawks took four of the six matches. 

Andres Urrea posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the second flight, while Kyle Chalmers posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at the third flight. Andre Fick and Gates rounded out the SJU wins with decisions at the fifth and sixth flights, respectively. Fick posted a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, with Gates earning a 6-4, 7-6 (3), 6-4 decision at No. 6 singles.

"Having the doubles point in hand helped as the singles started in cool windy outdoor conditions," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "Excellent performances by captain Andres, Urrea co-captain Kyle Chalmers, and freshman Andre Fick who closed out the win, with senior Kevin Gates putting the exclamation point on an excellent win against a team that has beate us the last two years. A very satisfying victory."

The Hawks return to action at home on Sunday versus Davidson.
