BALTIMORE – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team fell to Morgan State, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon in the Hawks' final non-conference road tilt of the season.
The Bears earned wins in both the second and third doubles flight to secure the point before seniors Renier Moolman and Andres Urrea earned a 6-4 victory in the first flight.
Morgan State won each of the first two singles flights before junior Kyle Chalmers got the Hawks on the board with a 7-5, 6-4 win in the third flight. Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, the Bears took flight number four to clinch the match before freshman Andre Fick earned a 3-6, 6-3, (10-8) supertiebreaker victory in the fifth.
“It was shades of 'The Revenant' – we went into the Bears' den and got badly mauled,” head coach Ian Crookenden said. “A good fight ensued, but this time the bear won with solid play and home court advantage. We will lick our wounds and look forward to hosting Drexel.”
The Hawks will meet the Dragons on Wednesday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex.
