Men's Tennis Trumped by Lehigh, 5-2

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team played a tough match on Saturday, but ultimately fell short in a 5-2 defeat at Lehigh. Senior Andres Urrea won a pair of matches in the defeat.

Urrea and classmate Renier Moolman kicked off doubles play with a 7-5 win in the first flight, but the Mountain Hawks came away with victories in the second and third flight to take the doubles point.

Urrea followed up with a straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, win over Bryant Born in the second singles flight to finish his perfect afternoon. Freshman Andre Fick also notched a win, defeating Tyler Hansen, 6-3, 6-4, in the fifth.

Moolman was one of three Hawks to push his singles match to three sets, falling in the first flight, 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3. Junior Kyle Chalmers fell in a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 three-setter in the third, while junior Tristan Boustany went down, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, in the fourth.

“Playing on the road is tough,” head coach Ian Crookenden said. “Home court advantage and strong play pulled out a tough win for Lehigh. Losing three matches in three sets is indicative of tough play.”

Saint Joseph's fell to 4-4 on the season in dual match play, while Lehigh improved to 7-1.

SJU continues its road trip on Monday with a match at Saint Francis (Pa.) before heading to St. Bonaventure on Tuesday.
