Men's Tennis Dismisses St. Bonaventure, 5-2

OLEAN, N.Y. – Four Hawks earned two wins apiece as the Saint Joseph's men's tennis team won its second consecutive match with a 5-2 result over St. Bonaventure on Tuesday afternoon.

“A very solid team effort,” head coach Ian Crookenden said after the match. “Beating Atlantic 10 Conference rivals on their home courts is tough to do, so today's victory is big for us.”

Saint Joseph's (6-4 overall, 2-0 Atlantic 10) took the early lead with a pair of doubles victories. Tristan Boustany and Kevin Gates cruised to a 6-2 win in the third flight before Kyle Chalmers and Andre Fick sealed the point with a 6-3 win in the second.

The Hawks put the match on the brink by taking the first two singles matches, as Boustany won his fourth-flight tilt in straight sets before Chalmers did the same in the third.

St. Bonaventure (3-7 overall, 0-1 Atlantic 10) notched a pair of victories in the top two flights to get back into the match, but Fick eased past his fifth-flight opponent to clinch the win before Gates finished the day with a straight sets win of his own.

“The doubles point was a big momentum swing, and the team brought it home in singles play,” Crookenden said.

The Hawks are idle until Friday, when they take on A-10 foe Dayton. SJU will stay in Ohio for a matchup with league opponent Saint Louis on Saturday.
