MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team wrapped up its regular season on Sunday, falling to Binghamton by a 4-3 score at the SJU Tennis Complex. The Hawks now turn their attention to the Atlantic 10 Championship, which is set to begin on Thursday in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Saint Joseph's (11-10) took the early lead with two doubles victories. Senior Renier Moolman and freshman Dan Tan took a 6-1 win in the first flight before senior Andres Urrea and sophomore Peter Dewitt won, 6-4, in the second.
Binghamton (9-8) took the lead with wins in the fifth and second singles flights, but Moolman earned a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over Eliott Hureau in the first flight to level the match.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Bearcats came away with wins in the fourth and then the third flight to secure the match victory.
In the sixth flight, senior Kevin Gates outlasted Inigo Saez, 6-2, 6-7 (4), 10-7, in a supertiebreaker, to close out the afternoon.
The Hawks will open play in the Atlantic 10 Championship on Thursday at the Boar's Head Club.
