MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team turned in its second dominant performance in as many days with a 7-0 blanking of La Salle at the SJU Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks cruised to three doubles wins and straight-sets victories in all six singles flights.
Andres Urrea and Dan Tan started things off with a 6-1 win in the first doubles flight before Tristan Boustany and Kyle Chalmers teamed up for a 6-2 win in the second. Valentijn van Erven and Nick Ringle turned in a 6-2 result in the third to polish off the sweep.
Boustany, Chalmers, Tan, and Urrea all pulled double duty and earned singles wins as well. Urrea was a 6-2, 6-3 winner in the top flight, while Chalmers won his second-flight match by a 6-2, 6-1 score. In the third flight, Boustany rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win, while Tan won at love in the fifth.
Andre Fick cruised in the fourth, winning 6-1, 6-2, and Sam Cadwell finished off the sixth flight with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph.
“A solid start to win the doubles point gave us the confidence to keep our energy high through the singles matches,” head coach Ian Crookenden said. “All positions on the team played steady, consistent tennis to win the match comfortably. Our last two regular season matches at home on Sunday should prepare us well for the Atlantic 10 Championship the following week.”
The Hawks wrap up the regular season on Sunday, hosting Rider and Binghamton.
