Mills Scores Twice In Hawks' 2-1 Overtime Win

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's sophomore forward Dakota Mills picked up where she left off a season ago, tallying a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in the Hawks' 2-1 overtime win in their season opener versus Seton Hall on Friday evening.

Mills, who garnered Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors last year after finishing second on SJU in goals (10) and points (23), helped the Hawks get to extra time as her first goal of the season answered an early second-half goal by the Pirates.

Down 1-0 in the 58th minute, Mills headed in a pass from senior Shannon Mulvey to tie the game at 1-1.

After an even finish to regulation, Mills struck again for SJU as rookie Gabrielle Vagnozzi centered a pass from the left wing to the far post where Mills gathered under the ball and deposited it into the back of the net at 93:07 to win it for the Hawks.

Seton Hall (0-1-0) opened the scoring in the 51st minute as the Pirates' Frankie Maier delivered a shot from the left side of the box to the lower right corner of the net to make it 1-0.

The lead was short lived though as Mills quickly answered and then put the game away in overtime.

As a team, SJU finished with a 17-8 edge in shots and 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. In net, rookie Cameron Perrott earned her first collegiate win, making three saves in a starting role for Saint Joseph's.

The Hawks return to action next Friday, August 26, at Rutgers at 5:30 p.m.
